Singer Family

Sıla, Açelya, Adem and Sophie looked into the history of the Singer family.

Rosalie Singer, who was a language teacher, was married to Fritz Singer, the owner of a printing company. They lived in Berlin together with their daughter Marion. In 1943, part of the family was deported to Ravensbrück and the other part to the Buchenwald concentration camp. Fritz, Marion and Rosalie have been murdered in these concentration camps. Many of Fritz's siblings survived the Shoah. In the 1960s, Fritz's brother have applied for restitution of Singer family's property under the so-called »compensation procedure«. The research team describes this procedure as »quite problematic«, shares its perspective on the history of the Singer family and provides insights into the research process.
