Jacobsohn Family

Eren, Mahmoud and Ezgi explore the history of the Jacobsohn family.

Sida and Moses Jacobsohn have met in Berlin in the late 1910s and had four children: Ruth, Stephen, Ori and Etan. In the era of National Socialism, the family was initially protected from deportation to a concentration camp through their Turkish citizenship. They used this protection to hide other Jews in their home as well. In 1943, the National Socialists asked Jews with Turkish citizenship to leave Germany. Turkey, however, hardly accepted any of its Jewish citizens and as a result, the Jacobsohn family was deported to the concentration camps Ravensbrück and Buchenwald. Sida, Moses, Ruth, Ori, Stephen and Etan have survived and managed to reach Palestine over many detours.

The three young researchers tell about the research process and their takeaways from it, and make demands for the future commemoration of the Jacobsohn family.
